Kim Yushin (595-673) was a general in 7th-century Silla. He led the unification of the Korean peninsula by Silla under the reign of King Muyeol of Silla and King Munmu of Silla. He is said to have been the great-grandchild of King Guhae of Geumgwan Gaya, the last ruler of the Geumgwan Gaya state. This would have given him a very high position in the Silla bone rank system, which governed the political and military status that a person could attain. Much of what we know about Kim's life comes from the detailed account in the Samguk Sagi, Yeoljeon 1-3, and the much briefer record in the Samguk Yusa, vol. 1

Kim Yushin (actor Eom Tae-Woo) A great Shilla general. With a handsome face and outstanding battle skills, he became the leader of the elite Hwarang corps. With a grand vision of unifying The Three Kingdoms under Shilla’s rule, he aligns himself with Princess Deokman who puts her complete trust in him. Princess Deokman later fell in love with Kim Yushin but they were unable to be together due to a twist of fate. Honest to a fault, he cannot lie, and has unmatchable determination.

In Queen Seondeok[]

Kim Yushin was the son of General Kim Seohyeon and Lady Manmyeong, who was a daughter of King Jinheung of Silla. He was born in Gyeyang, Jincheon County in 595, became a Hwarang warrior at just 15 and was an accomplished swordsman and a Pungweolju (풍월주; Hwarang leader) by the time he was in his late twenties. By the age of 34 he had been given total command of the Silla armed forces.

In his early years, he was rather naive, and did seemingly pointless training, hitting a dummy with a stick 10,000 times, and restarting if he lost his concentration. A young Princess Cheonmyung belittled this, as it was rather stupid to her view, but did a great amount to his determination which would get him to the position he was.

He was incompetent, and a county Hwarang. But after he came with Princess Cheonmyung, he became a capital Hwarang, and Deokman joined as well.

He was harsh to Deokman, but with good meaning. As the years passed by, he went to battle, and survived.

Then he was more respected by the other capital Hwarang, who had belittled the Dragon Guard before.

After Deokman became Princess, he won a competition for Pungweolju status, and later came to be a general.
